description:
The Po Valley landscape has been subject to extensive agriculture for decades, causing the impoverishment of the food and cultural supply chain, the intensive exploitation of the soil and the strong pollution of the waters. In New Pangea vision, the agricultural landscape is redesigned into the urban environment with the goal to respect tradition, allow the spreading of biodiversity, develop the presence of local products and rebalance the agronomic components of the soils. New Pangea in Milan is meant to stop the continuous consumption of the territory through a controlled rotation of land use which in this way could provide for real compensation works. Disused areas within the city, urban epicenters never resolved, spaces for temporary use and railways are now transformed into temporary agricultural areas within the city. Agricultural areas in the urban fabric replace traditional parks and become areas of environmental value and zero-impact production centers. New Pangea configures a scenario in which the introduction of the countryside landscape into the urban fabric, in addition, to extend the vision of the city from the inside, offers a reading of the city enlarged to the entire environmental system of the Po Valley.
